After 7 months of indiscriminate bombings and military occupation of the Gaza Strip, the intentions of the Zionists to dehumanize the Palestinians, the willing terror committed by the Israeli occupation forces on towns in Gaza, it is undeniable that it is a genocide.
It is clear that, since October 2023, Israel has unleashed a war of extermination and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people. More than 35 thousand Palestinians have been murdered, 15 thousand of them children, 10 thousand buried under the rubble caused by indiscriminate bombings, 78 thousand injured and 2 million displaced. The data on murdered journalists, international diplomatic personnel and doctors are just an example of the terror unleashed by Zionism on Gaza.
The so-called international community has taken more than moderate measures, insufficient to stop the historic crime being committed against the Palestinian people. Only, on May 9, 2024, 124 UN member countries voted for Palestine to be considered a member with full rights, including Mexico, China, Russia. Nine countries voted against granting the Palestinian nation its integration into the UN: the United States, Germany, Italy, Israel, Argentina, among others. That is, the UN has not even recognized Palestine as a member state.
Beyond the disputes in the UN, the forceful actions in support of the Palestinian cause of Yemen and Iran stand out, which are literally in armed conflict with the genocidal State of Israel. South Africa and Ireland have denounced the State of Israel in the International Court of Justice for war crimes. Türkiye, Jordan, Belize, Colombia and Bolivia have broken diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv.
The government of Mexico, although on May 7 it condemned Israel’s attack on the city of Rafah and has made repeated calls for an immediate ceasefire, or has asked the International Criminal Court to investigate “the possible commission of crimes in the conflict”, is very careful not to assume a firm policy that could have a real impact on Israeli interests in the country and thereby add to the real international pressure against Israel to stop the genocide in Gaza.
The collaboration between Mexico and the genocidal State of Israel
Mexico and the occupying state of Israel established diplomatic relations on July 1, 1952.. The collaboration has been developed in several areas, but perhaps the most important is in matters of internal security and cybersecurity.
According to Middle East specialist Eugenia López, with data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the purchase of weapons from Mexico to Israel has been increasing since the 1990s. since between the six-year terms of Carlos Salinas de Gortari (1988-1994) and Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018) the purchase of weapons and military technology increased by 1,632%.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for the year 2020 in Mexico, thirty companies dedicated to cybersecurity operated. The companies Toka Cyber and InElint and Cygov of Israeli origin provide services to local governments. The companies Elbit and MER have Mexican subsidiaries, and the rest provide services to the energy and financial sectors, either through distributors or through branches in our country.Yo In addition to selling spy services, such as PegasusIsrael collaborates in the training of police and military forces.
In economic matters, Mexico and the genocidal state signed a Free Trade Agreement in 2000. Currently, Mexico’s exports to Israel amount to $190 billion dollars, and imports to 660 billion dollars.ii
According to information from the Ministry of Economy, in Mexico there are 410 companies with capital from Israel. The genocidal state is the nineteenth largest investor in Mexico worldwide and the first among Middle Eastern countries, with an accumulated investment of $2 billion as of September 2020.iii.
To strengthen communication between Mexico and Israel, in September 2023, the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) of the 4T, Jorge Nuño Lara, met with the Minister of Transportation, National Infrastructure and Road Safety of the State of Israel , Miriam Regev, to push a direct flight from Mexico to Tel Aviv, and Cancún-Tel Aviv, which would be based at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport.
Mexico must end relations with Israel, and truly support the Palestinian cause
It is a fact, Israel has turned a deaf ear to the diplomatic actions of the international community, it has accused countries that support the Palestinian cause of being complicit in “international terrorism.” The contemporary Hitler, Benjamin Netanyahu, has denigrated the world’s student demonstrations against the genocide and accuses them of being anti-Semitic, and has little concern about the resolutions of the International Criminal Court against their warmongering and terrorist actions.
But Tel Aviv is concerned that the United States will cut off its supply of military aid. In 2024 alone, Israel will receive $95 billion in defense support from Washington. As is known, this aid also represents an indirect subsidy to the US military-industrial complex, since they are the main suppliers of weapons to Israel. Hence the importance of the student demonstrations in more than 250 universities in the United States, which are increasingly putting pressure on their government to stop supporting the genocide.
The lessons are that the government of Mexico, if it really wants to support the Palestinian cause and defend true Mexican humanism, must break diplomatic relations with Israel; boycott the companies Toka Cyber, InElint, Cygov, Elbit and MER; prevent Israel’s national airline EL AL from having flights to Mexico; join the campaign of economic sanctions against Israeli interests in Mexico and break trade agreements.
It is clear that no government will carry out these measures by chance, since Zionist interests are protected by the economic and military support of US imperialism. They will only be carried out if there is massive political pressure from the Mexican people against the interests of the companies that subsidize and support to the genocidal state of Israel. Here lies the great importance of the small Mexican demonstrations against genocide and occupation at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM), or the solidarity actions with Palestine in CDMX, Morelia Michoacán, Tijuana BC, etc.
The cause for humanity is the Palestinian cause, and there is no action that, no matter how small, represents the fight for a better humanity. History will soon remind us which side we were on.
