The man of the day in the Plaza de Castilla courts in Madrid, Alberto González Amador, starred this Monday in an exercise in surreal escapism. The partner of the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, was summoned at ten in the morning to Court of Instruction number 19. An hour later, her hearing was suspended and, to avoid being seen by the media, she remained for three hours in court, where he appeared looking almost unrecognizable: shaved, with short hair, in a navy blue suit and, oddly enough, with a gray wig to go unnoticed.
González Amador is accused of two crimes against the Public Treasury for tax fraud amounting to more than 350,000 euros and another for document falsification. This Monday’s hearing lasted around ten minutes. According to sources familiar with the case, the statement of Ayuso’s boyfriend – along with that of the other four investigated – has been postponed to June 24. However, these sources indicate that during this brief meeting between the parties there was also talk in an informal tone about a conformity agreement. Ayuso’s partner, therefore, would admit to some of these crimes to obtain a reduction in sentences.
In fact, it is not the first time he has done it. On February 2, González Amador’s lawyer sent the Prosecutor’s Office an eight-page document in which he admitted that his client committed two tax crimes and also detailed the sanction to which he is committed to avoid going to prison: eight months in prison and paying 520,000 euros. The Prosecutor’s Office took note of this desire for an agreement at the time, before sending the case to the court, and it is now when the negotiation begins.
The defenses can close these agreements until the moment the trial begins, looking for mitigating circumstances to reduce the sentences. And, therefore, in this type of agreement the penalties that may be requested weigh heavily. In the case of Ayuso’s boyfriend, the judicial horizon that opens before his eyes is not at all promising: in the complaint, two tax crimes are attributed to him, each punishable by up to five years in prison (in addition to a fine); and another crime of document falsification due to the scheme of false invoices, for which a sentence of between six months and three years in prison is contemplated.
This Monday, González Amador was the man of the day in the Plaza de Castilla courts. He was expected on the sixth floor of that judicial building, a labyrinthine facility that on Monday mornings is a hive of lawyers, prosecutors, defendants and witnesses. An average of 3,000 people pass through this headquarters, which houses 54 investigative courts and six prison surveillance courts, and more than 1,100 employees work daily. It has three entrances, the main one, through the Plaza de Castilla, and two smaller ones, on one side that adjoins the Bravo Murillo road, and on the back side, along Poeta Joan Maragall street. Dozens of journalists were stationed this morning at the three entrances before the start time. Also on the sixth floor, where a smaller group was waiting in a hallway for González Amador’s arrival. No cameras, because it is prohibited to make recordings inside. In addition, the security chief had ordered a special deployment with reinforcements at all those points. But Ayuso’s partner gave them all the slip.
González Amador was not recognized upon entering the building either by the press or by the security guards. A few minutes after 10:00, the head of security had to enter the offices of court 19 to verify if the person under investigation was there, because none of his employees had been able to identify him. The press officer of the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid also accessed those offices. Inside, they found that a person who said his name was Alberto González Amador had appeared at the expected time. He looked nothing like the few photos available of him. In the best-known images, those of González Amador walking with the Madrid president, taken by Lagencia Press, he is seen with medium length hair and a dark beard. He seems tall next to Ayuso. However, the subject who was in number 19 was of medium height, had very short hair, practically shaved, and had shaved.

Three lawyers representing González Amador were waiting in the hallway, the prosecutor Diego Lucas, ―substitute for Julián Salto, accused by the Ayuso couple of revealing secrets―, the State Attorney’s Office and the lawyers of the popular accusation of Más Madrid and PSOE . The start of the hearing was delayed by a computer problem. When the parties entered the courtroom, the matter was resolved quickly. They all agreed to suspend the statements until June 24. The reason for the delay, according to judicial sources, is that it had not been possible to notify the appointment to his alleged Mexican collaborator, Maximiliano Niederer, and it had not been possible to process the videoconference with the Seville courts for the collaborators of the Seville municipality to testify on Tuesday. of Arahal.
At 11:08, González Amador quickly left the offices on 19. Instead of walking down the hallway towards the central part of the building, passing in front of the small group of journalists, he headed alone towards a side where you can also take elevators. and stairs. Three security guards blocked reporters’ access to that area. The journalists could only watch as a man with short hair and broad shoulders covered in a navy blue jacket walked away. His shoes clicked in the hallway at a dizzying pace.
González Amador’s wig
That’s when a game of cat and mouse began again that lasted almost three hours. Some witnesses told Europa Press that they had seen González Amador wearing a wig. The security guard who spoke with EL PAÍS stated that he saw him wearing that accessory just a minute after leaving 19. He was walking alone up the stairs, but instead of looking for the exit direction, he went back up towards the sixth floor. It was a professional wig, like the ones you get at the spy shop.
His lawyers left the courthouse minutes after the brief hearing, but no one saw González Amador leave. Neither the security chief nor the press officer of the TSJM knew how to answer whether the person under investigation was still inside the building. A security guard claimed that they were checking the cameras to check what had happened. González Amador’s “escapism” was the talk among the guards. They couldn’t explain how no one had detected it. The special security deployment, which is normally suspended as soon as the person of interest evacuates the building, continued at 1:30 p.m. The press was still waiting in the three entrances.
Finally, the man of the day left the building shortly before 2:00 p.m., accompanied by a blonde woman, through the back door of Poeta Joan Maragall. They walked with a light step. He, without the wig, covered his face with his phone. He picked them up in a taxi. “Alberto? Are you Alberto?” asked a reporter. The few media that witnessed the moment barely captured his face.
Ayuso, who had no events scheduled this Monday, spent the weekend in Ibiza without her boyfriend, according to The Economist. A source very close to the president assures that González Amador did go on that trip. He denies that he was wearing a wig this Monday. Asked by EL PAÍS about the false hair, one of his lawyers, Carlos Neira, has avoided answering.
The new image of González Amador has attracted attention even in the PP of Madrid. The general secretary of the popular party and Ayuso’s number two, Alfonso Serrano, who also met with Ayuso’s partner in the midst of controversy over his tax fraud, commented hours later on the Cuatro program Everything is a Lie that he, personally, did not He recognizes it with this change of look. “I don’t even recognize that person who was in the car. I dont know if is. I know him from what he is like with longer hair.”
